"Pain"
Today I’m grateful for… pain,
The kind that lets you know you’re growing,
I mean… yeah it’s uncomfortable,
But it’s also reassuring.
Sometimes pain is there
To let you know you’re getting stronger
& I know it’s hurts, but if you hold it
Just a little longer… you realize
It’s not as heavy as it seemed
And some pain is only temporary
And waiting on your release
See sometimes pain is a teacher
A compass, a guide
Leading you to all the things
You didn’t know you had inside
So today I want to say thank you pain
Thank you for growing us stronger
And for showing us what we’re made of
Thank you for all those nights that we cried
And for all those silent battles we survived
I finally understand why they say
“No pain, no gain”
Without you
Life literally couldn’t be the same
So thank you God for everything
And Today
I thank you for pain.
"Change"
Today I’m grateful for…change
And I laugh to myself as I say that
Because the old me knew how to cling to
What is familiar and what feels safe
And I would be rattled when sudden change came, asking me to make space
For the unfamiliar, the unknown
Seriously?! How dare you change?
I thought I was just getting in my zone
It took some time to realize
That change was stretching me…
Preparing me for the life I asked for
Change was stripping me of all the things
I needed to let go
Change was making room for increase
If only I’d let changes flow
I don’t know how often I’ve said thank you
& I apologize for those times I’ve complained
Today I say thank you God for everything
& thank you God for change.
"Kindness"
Today I’m grateful for… kindness,
It costs nothing to be kind,
But sometimes we forget
As I was sitting, feeling down
I started to reflect...
I thought back to a time when
Things weren't so great
But it was a stranger's kindness
That clothed me with grace
Kindness that ripples like a pebble
Thrown into a pond
Kindness like a helping hand
When life's been way too hard
Kindness like the way the sun shines
And the flowers bloom
Kindness like the feeling
When real love enters the room
It costs nothing to be kind
But sometimes we forget
I might need to revisit this
On days I get myself in check
Especially when I feel alone
I'ma have to rewind this
Thank you God for everything
Thank you God for kindness.
